Wax Idols - Discipline & Desire

lummets you into the band’s shadowy world but remains loveable – like a brighter, warmer Savages.

Monte Vallier and Hether Fortune. […] Mark helped us out for sure, in & out of the studio, but his contributions hardly amount to the credit of PRODUCER. The original idea was for him to sort of co-produce the record but things didn't work out that way in the end. I say this now with absolutely no ill will toward Mark, who I have the utmost respect for as an artist, but to ensure that credit is given only & always where credit is due. MONTE VALLIER. Jot that name down if you plan on writing about the record in the future. Please & thank you – Hether

Within the first few seconds of ‘Discipline & Desire,’ their second album, Bay Area foursome Wax Idols reveal their familiarity with darkwave, as well as Bauhaus (the bass line) and the Slits (the vocals). But once the song loses its structure and the band jams out the ending, they stake out their own sonic territory. The sheer strength these ladies harness gives ‘Discipline & Desire’ its modern touch. Discipline & Desire, as an album, is incredibly sleek and powerful, hitting you with enough edge to make you feel like punching something when listening. Tracks like "Dethrone" "When It Happens" "Ad Re:Ian" and "Sound of a Void" all stand out as well-constructed performed songs, but I find it hard to name a disappointing track on the album.[…] All of this melds in to an album that is on the short list of "Must Listens" for 2013 thus far.
